You know a country is culturally rich and vibrant when it is rich in its traditions and festivals. With India’s diverse population, people get to celebrate over 20 festivals in a year. Festivals are a great way to celebrate an occasion with your beloved ones, be it during the harvesting season, victory of good over evil, Christmas, New Year, and a lot more with love, warmth, light, and colors. By celebrating occasions, we take a moment to seek blessings from the almighty and extend gratitude towards our existence, safety, and well-being. We keep the traditions, legendary sacrifices of warriors in our memories.

Recently, we have celebrated the festival of lights, Diwali or Deepavali, the most spectacular festival of India, where we celebrate the victory and homecoming of Lord Rama with Lord Lakshman and Goddess Sita to Ayodha after 14 years in exile, after defeating the demon king Ravana. The term “Diwali” is derived from the Sanskrit word “Deepavali” meaning “row of lights” which also symbolizes Light over Darkness, Good over Evil, Knowledge over Ignorance, and Victory over Failure or Forfeit.

To celebrate the festivals in full swing, each festival or occasion comes with its own traditions and sacred ways of celebrating it. Out of a myriad of other sacred ways to celebrate Indian festivals, Gifting our dear ones has been an age-old tradition. Do you remember your grandparents sliding a note of Rs 100 into your pockets? Do you remember visiting your beloved ones with a present?

Gifting is a beautiful way of establishing the connection between the giver and the receiver, allowing you to emotionally invest and nurture your relationship with them. With gifts, small or grand, you are presenting the reflection of your affection towards the giver.

To understand different traditions across the country, We got into a conversation with a friend, Pi, who seemed happy about the festive season and is equally excited to celebrate the upcoming occasions that are round the corner. Upon asking him a few questions on how did he celebrate Diwali and what’s his take on the gifting traditions that are being carried on for ages, he revealed some brilliants and unique experiences he had during the festive season.

Let’s check out!

Pi went to his home to celebrate Diwali with his family. They decorated their house with lights, flowers, and earthen candles. They celebrated according to their traditions, with lots of food and desserts on the side.

Pi added,

“As gifting is considered sacred and auspicious, this year with the advancement of technology and digitization, my brother gifted me stocks of a company”. Does that mean I am a shareholder now? Makes me feel quite a thing about myself!

Upon asking Pi’s brother, Sci, he raised his ‘brows with pride. He said the idea behind gifting stocks to Pi on Diwali was to gift him something meaningful, brilliant, and valuable! Over time Pi can have good returns. Nowadays, people are gifting stock shares to their loved ones to get them started in their financial journey.

As we are still not over the festive season, We asked Sci about a few more valuable gifting options that can be gifted on special occasions, now that we know Christmas, New Year and many more festivals are around the corner.

Here are a few thoughtful gifts you can consider gifting your loved ones -

Gold ETF (Exchange-Traded Fund)

Gold has always been a mark of wealth. With greater economic value, it also has emotional values passed on from generation to generation. If you are planning to gift a gold coin, jewelry, or gold bar, you should think about gifting Gold ETFs. Easy to buy and sell.

Mutual Fund via SIP (Systematic Investment Plan)

If you want to present a meaningful gift that can help them boost their financial goals, yet is not too intense, SIP is the right thing you should gift them! With SIPs, one can start investing with an amount as low as Rs 300 expecting good returns over a period of time.

You might wonder what makes SIP the most reliable investment route? It allows you to periodically invest a particular amount in a disciplined manner and earn great returns.

Piggy Bank

Yes! A gift, no matter how small it is, is a gift. It takes discipline and dedication to build a habit. If you want your beloved one to start healthy financial habits, gift them a Piggybank and ask to start small!

This way you can contribute to raising awareness about the importance of having healthy financial habits from an early stage of life. Educate them on how small habits can create a big difference in their future.
